comes to recording and viewing TV programs.

MacBook, Paulo Rodrigues, Apple Outsider. What features is the
widely anticipated 13" widescreen Intel-powered iBook replacment
expected to have?
- The sad state of today's music:
Rap brings out the worst, Ted Hodges, Vintage Mac Living.
iPod's let you listen to the music you like privately. Why is it
that so many rap fans feel the need to crank it up and force their
music on everyone?
- Mac mini Hacks
& Mods for Dummies, Hardy Menagh, Empowered. This volume
provides a lot of useful information, but those with Intel minis or
speed-bumped G4 minis will realize the book is already dated.

fuel academic turnaround, potential restore from backup problems,
and more, Mac News Review. Also future monitors may look back,

design, a faster system bus, 2 expansion bays, 2 PC Card slots, and
plenty of options.
- Fossil
WallStreet PowerBook G3 still useful after 10 years, Tamara Keel,
Digital Fossils. The PowerBook G3 Series had a magnificent keyboard,
supports two long-life batteries, and runs the Classic Mac OS with
aplomb. It's great for writing writing, email, and even surfing the
Web.
- Maxed out WallStreet
runs Tiger quite nicely, Brian Deuel, My Turn. It's no speed demon,
but with a 300 MHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM, and a newer hard drive, it's a
cheap way to have a notebook Mac.

fully featured, still small-and-light models.

choosing a PC, too few when buying a Mac, Frank Fox, Stop the Noiz.
So many brands and models on the Windows side, not even counting
building your own, or a very limited number of Mac models that might
not meet your needs.
2010
- Resurrecting
Apple's PowerBook Duo, Austin Leeds, Apple Everywhere. Found at
Goodwill, the 1992 PowerBook Duo 230 looked pretty nice, but at home,
Austin Leeds discovered that the keyboard didn't work.
- Microsoft Office sluggish with
Snow Leopard, creator codes in Mac OS X, SETI futility, and more,
Charles Moore, Charles Moore's Mailbag. Apple and Microsoft drop the
ball on old OS versions, and more thoughts on prospects for detecting
extraterrestrial intelligence.
