September 12 in Low End Mac History
Sept. 11 - Sept.

2000
- Review: Mac OS in a Nutshell,
Scott Atkinson, My Turn. A good reference for those with a strong
Mac background.
- Smaller than your Palm,
Anne Onymus, The Rumor Mill. Apple's new PDA borrows some old
technology, marries it to the latest, and makes the Palm seem
huge.
2001
- A tale of two vendors,
Kiernan, My Turn. How one online vendor lost a potential sale, but
another found it.
- What is a beige G3 good
for?, Korin Hasegawa-John, Mac Daniel. Who should consider a
beige G3 - and who should avoid it?
- Class act, Mac Web, Dan
Knight, Mac Musings. Kudos to the Mac-related websites that
suspended Mac news to help us focus on Tuesday's terrorist
attack.
- 9/11, Dan
Knight's Soapbox. The terrorists have succeeded in their goal of
sowing terror in America.
2002
- Time for Apple to do the right
thing, Jeff Adkins, Mac Lab Report. "...Apple's in no position
to be treating its faithful customers the way they have in the
recent past."
- Leaving the past behind,
Stephen Van Esch, Mac Scope. "OS 9 will not be a boot option
in 2003 Macs. While this is a reason to rejoice, when you move
forward, you always leave something behind."
- Switching off Mac OS 9, Andrew
W. Hill, Aquatic Mac. No more booting into OS 9 with 2003 Macs
- is it a bad thing?
- Go ahead, stick with Mac OS
9, Dan Knight, Mac Musings. "Stick with your low-end Macs and
low-end operating systems. They will continue to serve you
well."

WallStreet, Electrovaya batteries, and more.

is smaller, lighter, and more rugged than the mini, but it gives up
FireWire, reduces storage capacity, and decrease battery life.

promises 8 versions of OS X, Anne Onymus, Rumor Mill. Microsoft
Vista will be available in 7 different versions, but Apple has an
even better idea.

colorful, least known Mac clones, Tom Hormby, Orchard. Designed
to accommodate several different Apple motherboards, the MaxxBoxx
clones had room for up to 10 internal drives, garnering a dedicate
following among German power users.
- 30 days of old school computing:
Computing at work with a PowerBook 170, Ted Hodges, Vintage Mac
Living. This vintage Mac laptop's battery still holds a charge, and
it's a competent performer for browsing the Web, email, writing,
and instant messaging.
2007
- AppleWorks may be discontinued,
but it's far from dead, Leo Titus LeBron V, Collection Spotlight.
AppleWorks combined word processing, spreadsheets, and more in a single
lightweight app, giving many users all the tools they needed.
