Highlights
1997
1999
- A menagerie of Macs,
Steve Wood, View From the Classroom. Real stories of computers in
the classroom.
- My three iMacs, Dan Knight,
iMac Channel. "Too many models with too many options destroys the
simplicity of the iMac."
2000
- Why I love Quads, Greta
Heinse, My Turn. "This particular Mac had been designed by Apple to
do any number of things, but flying wasn't one of them. Neither was
landing."
- Moving to Mac OS 9, Dan Knight,
Mac Musings. Until now, we haven't had a reason to install Mac OS
9. Now that we have, we find it very solid.
- The SuperMac S900 letters,
Charles Moore, Miscellaneous Ramblings. Tips on dealing with slow
startups and computer noise.
2001
- Macs vs. PCs, David Pierce,
My Turn. How a four-year-old G4-upgraded Power Mac compares with a
1 GHz Wintel machine.
- Radio design and the Mac, part
2, Adam Robert Guha, Apple Archive. The best radio and computer
designs strive for simplicity, not complexity.
- USB, curmudgeons, ESD, and
browsers, Charles W Moore, Moore's Mailbag. Reader
feedback on USB, curmudgeons and OS X, ESD, and the WannaBe
browser.
2005
- Mac mini (Late 2005). Apple
has quietly begun shipping a faster 1.33/1.5 GHz version of the Mac
mini with 64 MB VRAM and 5400 rpm hard drives.
- What is DVD-RAM and why would I
want it?, Dan Knight, Mac Musings. The new Mac mini's 8x
SuperDrive supports DVD-RAM. Here's how it works and how it may
benefit you.
2007
- 'Think Different': The
ad campaign that restored Apple's reputation, Tom Hormby, Orchard.
After Steve Jobs' triumphant return and before the debut of the iMac,
Apple had to do something to change people's opinion of the beleaguered
company.
- 3.2 Gbps FireWire, 4.8 Gbps USB
coming, Macs cost less to use, a Core Image-based image editor, and
more, Mac News Review. Also wireless USB to hit 1 Gbps, Mac sales
are surging, aluminum iMacs have great image quality, 802.11n WiFi for
most modern Macs, and more.
2009
2010
- iPad on campus:
Semester one of the Tablet Era, Austin Leeds, Apple Everywhere.
eTextbooks saves 50% on textbooks, iWork 1.2 is wonderful, and
TeamViewer is a great remote access app.
- Classic cars and
classic Macs, Jason Walsh, Mac Life. In some ways, running an old
car is like using an old Mac. In other ways, not so much - but it's
still fun.
- Is this the end for
Steve Ballmer?, Tim Nash, Taking Back the Market. PC sales are
declining as Macs, iPads, and Android tablets grow market share. With
Windows market share slipping, can Steve Ballmer survive much
longer?
2011
- A second spring
for PowerPC Macs, Sebastian M. Patting, My Turn. Apple has
abandoned the Classic Mac OS, PowerPC Macs, and PowerPC software, but
that doesn't have to mean an end for new development.
