April 14 in Apple and Low End Mac History
April 13 - April 15
1986
- Mac 512Ke introduced to
replace Mac 512K, complement
Mac Plus. No SCSI port, no
memory expansion options - like 512K. 800K floppy drive and 128 KB
ROMs like Plus.
1999
- Statistical lies, Dan
Knight, Mac Musings. "Remember the 3% and 4% market share figures
we saw when Apple seemed on its deathbed? Well, they were only
partly true - they only measured part of the computer market."
2000
- Surfing large, Dan
Knight, Mac Musings. Internet Explorer 5, big screen fonts, and
another reason Macs are better.
- Mac games in development,
Brian Rumsey, Low End Mac Gaming. A look at eight games currently
being developed for the Mac.
2003
- PowerBook 1400, CD-ROM drivers,
ADB vs. USB, free email, and a WallStreet question, Charles
Moore, Miscellaneous Ramblings. Readers weigh in or ask questions
about PB 1400, CD-ROM drivers, ADB vs. USB performance, connecting
to free POP3 email, burning CDs from a WallStreet, and iBook goes
to war.
2004
2005
- Macintosh unit sales grow 43%
vs. 2004, Dan Knight, Mac Musings. Apple has had a stunning
quarter - Mac unit sales up, iPod unit sales up, total revenue up,
and profits way up over a year ago.
- The CEO and the Tiger, Jeff
Adkins, The Lite Side. The semi-barbaric CEO allows his subjects to
choose one of two doors. Behind one is a Tiger of great cunning,
behind the other....
2008
2009
- Unibody
MacBook 'an excellent successor' to 12" PowerBooks and iBooks,
Charles Moore, 'Book Value. The MacBook is a bit wider and lacks
FireWire and a built-in modem, but overall it's a worthy successor to
the Apple's 12" 'Books.
- How Apple can kill
off $1.29 iTunes tracks, Tim Nash, Taking Back the Market. Raising
the price of popular tracks from 99¢ to $1.29 has already reduced
their popularity.
- Judging HP by
Microsoft's 'laptop hunter' standards, Frank Fox, Stop the Noiz. If
Microsoft is going to pick on Apple for overpriced notebooks, its only
fair that HP, Dell, and others be judged the same way.
