1999
2000
- Low end Mac workhorses, Carl,
My Turn. Imagine running an ISP with SE/30s, Quadras, and
PowerBooks. Those old Macs are incredible workhorses!
- Welcome to the wrong OS,
Adam Robert Guha, Apple Archive. Picking the wrong OS for your Mac
can be a real nightmare.
- A Macintosh summer
vacation, Steve Wood, View From the Classroom. Mac software for
use during summer vacation.
- RumorLog, Dan Knight and
Anne Onymus. New iBook & PowerBook.
2003
- Power Macintosh G5.
1.6 to 2.0 GHz, SuperDrive standard, new enclosure, PCI-X and AGP 8x
slots, serial ATA, HyperTransport - the world's fastest personal
computer.
- Power Mac G4/1.25
GHz. Apple quietly released a pair of 1.25 GHz Power Mac G4s that
can still boot OS 9.
- Hosed by UPS again, Charles W Moore,
Miscellaneous Ramblings. UPS brokerage fees on US shipments to Canada
are "outrageous, excessive, and highway robbery."
- Apple G5 upgrades: No Mac left
behind, Anne Onymus, Rumor Mill. You wouldn't believe Apple's
latest scheme to get owners of legacy Macs to migrate to OS X - new G5
motherboards for older Macs.
2004
2005
- Dell wants OS X, Apple's switch
to Intel a good idea, IBM sheds no tears, WiFi on a CPU, and
more, The Macintel Report. End of MHz
wars good for Apple, Macintel triple-threat, transition to Intel
may cool Mac sales, and more.
- Royal iPod, Apple/Walmart
pact, poor iPod quality, longest lasting iPod battery, and
more, iPod News Review. Also Linux on your iPod,
Independence Day shuffle dock, custom mini colors, wirless iPod
headphones, iWorkout, and more.
2006
2008
- How a heavily
upgraded Power Mac G4 pulled me back from the Dark Side, Ben
Zalutsky, No Windows for Me. Seduced by a quad-core Windows gaming rig,
it was a 9-year-old Power Mac that brought him back to the Mac.
- 'Snow Leopard'
and the death of PowerPC support, Carl Nygren, Classic Macs in the
Intel Age. It looks like Mac OS X 10.6 will only support Intel Macs -
and possibly only 64-bit ones at that. Should G4 and G5 owners start
looking at Linux?
- SteelSeries
S&S Pro Gaming: Can a mouse pad really be worth $30?, Charles
Moore, Miscellaneous Ramblings. Once you've used a SteelSeries mouse
pad for a while, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
- Linux still not friendly enough,
widescreen and pivoting monitors, Mac 512K restoration, and more,
Dan Knight, Low End Mac Mailbag. Also the utility of Apple's old Studio
Displays, questions about ViewPowr video card for PowerBook 1400, and
9-year-old predictions that came true.
